Books

To share and discuss books.   I recently read "Harry's  Trees" by Jon Cohen and I enjoyed it very much. And "Arcadia" by Lauren Groff which I liked though I'll admit the hippie/cult aspect felt a bit creepy.  And a few other books I read that I thought very good, "Little Big" by John Crowley "The Law Of Love" by Laura Esquivel "Here Be Dragons" by Sharon Kay Penman "City of Lights' by Lauren Belfer  "A Distant Mirror" by Barbara W. Tuchman with a common thread of being otherworldly whether in time or fiction. And I was wondering if  any of you have read anything by Ursula K. Le Guin, Isabel Allende or Phillip K. Dick?                                                                                                                                    * Taffy *

Pro Wedding Photos

We finally got the pro wedding photos the other day (yeah, almost two months later 🤷). Here are some:

April Flakes Brings May... um... Cakes? Sure.

Snow in RÄ«ga today [ click "read more" to see video ]. It got up to into the 20s°c (70s°f) a week ago. We had a fairly snowy winter compared to most years but still quite mild for the area historically. The Baltic Sea used to have an effect similar to the Great Lakes but now days it mostly causes rain. Aisa is unimpressed. — Alexander

Eclipse photos

Here are some photos from the total eclipse, from Cleveland. We went to a luncheon and eclipse talk at Case Western Reserve University, then went out on the lawn to watch with a bunch of college students. (Evan opted to walk back to her apartment and watch it from the lawn, with her cat, so she's not pictured.) Pre-totality:  You can see the difference in the amount of light during totality. It didn't get midnight-dark, because the entire horizon was still lit up. I guess we were seeing beyond the path of totality. It looked like sunset, except in all directions. And finally, here's my sad little photo of the eclipse itself. This is not really what it looked like, photos can't do it justice! I also wrote about it on my personal blog , minus the photos containing family members, if you want to read it.

Here's a photo of cherry trees along the Willammette Waterfront, a few blocks from our place in Portland.
